Cabinets and Furniture
Adding custom cabinetry will give you the freedom to maximize your storage space and create an aesthetic that is gorgeous and functional.
When choosing cabinets and furniture for your space it is important to select the right desk height and the chair that will accommodate it! Since the desk is often the most used space in a home office you want it to be comfortable for your needs. Also make sure the desk is large enough to offer yourself adequate arm room and to hold your equipment at the same time. With that being said you should approximate the size of the desk you wish to buy or build first, this will give you an idea of what you have room for in the rest of your space such as furniture, storage or decor. Consider do you need a book case, filing cabinet, extra seating for guests?
With furniture, select chairs that are comfortable and supportive of your body and that you can sit in for long hours. If space is limited, consider storage ottomans that you can utilize for guest seating and extra room for supply storage.

Lighting

Lighting is critical in a home office. Depending on what your space will be used for you will want to make sure you have enough light that will keep your eyes comfortable while you work. If your space has a window, place your desk close to the window and embrace the natural light. This will be easier on your eyes versus artificial light. However If you have no window, daylight lamps will help transition. If your desk is to become more of a work bench or craft table, consider under cabinet lighting or additional overhead lighting. A movable desk light is also a great choice if you need your work close.

Remember the Ergonomic Rules

This is one of the most important things to remember while you create your cabinets and buy your furniture. If you plan to use your desk for a computer, remember the top of your computer screen should be slightly below or at eye level. No matter what your desk will be used for, your arms should not reach up to the desk when you are seated. They should rather be able to slightly hover/settle on the desk in a resting position. If you require a keyboard, place your keyboard so your forearms are parallel to the floor.

In the end, your home office should accommodate your work flow, storage needs and equipment. Discuss with your designer to iron out what you need from your space!
