When designing cabinets for your home, design style, functionality and budget are the largest factors  when making decisions and can be a great guide to help you figure out the rest!

Function

Being the most critical factor when designing your custom cabinets for your space, you want your cabinets to not only look beautiful but work for you and your family. Not the other way around! Take for instance your kitchen. Many people set and organize their kitchen in a specific way to help them function the best. Determine what your needs and wants are for that space. Are you a gourmet cook with lots of accessories or are you a minimal cook that does not need a lot room to cook or to storage? With this in mind you can begin to determine what is most important for you and your cabinetry.

Material and Wood Type 

The type of material you select for your cabinets to be constructed out of will determine the budget, durability, style options, appearance and overall longevity of your cabinetry. Consider again the function of your cabinets. If you are creating a mudroom locker you may want to update to a denser wood or a HDF (High Density Fiberboard) product to hold up against abuse of high use. If you are designing a kitchen buffet cabinet however you may want something more ornate and it may not be as important for dense wood since the use will be less. The Style

When selecting the style of your cabinets you will see various samples of door styles and profiles. The door style will play a huge role in setting the tone and style for your space. We would recommend to do a little research and see examples of an entire space in the style you are envisioning. This will help narrow in on the style you are drawn to. Once you have selected your drawer box this step will be a breeze. Functional hardware relates to your drawer slides and door hinges. The biggest question you need to consider is when selecting your drawer slides and hinges, is would you like you cabinets to be quiet when being closed?
