What trends are here to stay?
Interior Design, including custom cabinet design, is exposed to trends and fads just like fashion and while some are timeless, there are some that become outdated within the same year! Unlike fashion, it is more difficult to switch the trends for an entire space. Listed below are some industry trends that have stuck around!

Painted rather than Stain

This trend when it first came out was refreshing and offered so many possibilities! Now it is becoming the norm and has been established as a common selection for quite a few years. Colors we see commonly are white, gray, black, green and blue. We have noticed the neutral colors have the longevity versus fashionable colors. White for instance is widely timeless for many years opposed to other stylish hues. Having your cabinets remain neutral will offer more possibilities for decorating, since you are not decorating around the permanent feature like your cabinets.

Two Tone

A great trend that plays off of painted cabinets is two tone cabinets. This can be achieved in several ways but one of our favorites is selecting a cabinet to pop! By painting your perimeter cabinets one color and your island a different color you get a great mix! With painted cabinets it is very easy to add a touch of warmth and contrast by introducing a stained color. Same with painted cabinets, neutral seems to be the trend that lasts.

Glass Door Cabinets

This feature can be seen all throughout history! The traditional glass door cabinets have been showing up in more modern or transitional style homes. Glass door cabinets are a great way to display or to add a sense of space! We see glass doors commonly used on the upper cabinets. This creates the illusion of more space and opens up the space to more lighting.

Open Shelving

This trend has been popular as of late. Using the open shelving to display dishes or serving pieces has been introduced into kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and more! While this trend has some longevity in some spaces, we do identify the struggle of keeping the open shelving in kitchens neat and orderly. Kitchens, unlike other space have a lot of dust, debris and grease. If you are not the organized type, this trend may not be for you!

Rustic Wood
Adding a rustic accent or piece to your space will add a lot to your home. Rustic wood can be transitional in style depending on what you compliment it with. For example, you can easily make rustic pieces modern and industrial if it is paired with clean straight lines and metal elements. It can also be used for a more classical cottage style. We see this trend having a timeless effect if used on accent points rather than being used on a large focal point or entire space. Using re-purposed barn wood or wood that is characteristically knotty to create an island rather than the entire kitchen will add more options to vary and evolve in style as time marches on.
